How to use LENOVO Laptop Keyboard

Whenever you use a computer, you’ll probably use LENOVO Laptop Keyboard. The most common kind is referred to as a ‘QWERTY’ keyboard after the keys on the top row of letters. It was invented by C L Scholes in the 1860s when he was working out the best place to put the keys on a manual typewriter.
Follow these step-by-step instructions to help you get to know what your keyboard can do
So that you can carry out the simple exercises below, you’ll need a document open to type into. Read our guides What is WordPad? and How to open WordPad. Then create a WordPad document and go through the following steps.
Step 1: Have a good look at your keyboard. The most important keys are labelled on the diagram below:
Computer keyboard diagram with labels
Click here for an enlarged version of the above diagram, which you can print out for easy reference.
Some keyboards, especially those on laptops, will have a slightly different layout. For example, yours might not have a number pad or the delete key may be in a different place. But virtually all keyboards will have these important keys somewhere.
Step 2: The main keys are the letter keys. When you type just using these, you get lower-case print. However, if you hold down a ‘shift key’ (there are two to choose from) at the same time as you type, you’ll get UPPER-CASE letters.
Try typing your name, including capitals (UPPER-CASE) and spaces. The ‘space bar’ (which you press briefly to make a space) is the wide key at the bottom of the keyboard.
Step 3: If you make a mistake in your typing, there’s always a remedy.
To delete a letter, place your cursor (mouse pointer) just after the letter and click. Then press Backspace briefly. (Always press briefly – otherwise, you’ll get repeated deletions, spaces, letters or whatever.) Or place your cursor just before the letter, click and press Delete.
Step 4: Now try typing a sentence:
This is a good sentence to practise because it contains most of the letters of the alphabet.
Step 5: You can move the cursor along this sentence without deleting anything by using the arrow keys:
Try moving the cursor backwards and forwards through your sentence.
Step 6: Now try using the number pad, if you have one.
To use this to type numbers, you have to press the Num Lock key. There may be an indicator light at the top of the keyboard or on the ‘Num Lock’ key itself to show that it’s on.
Step 7: You can also type using the numbers on the main keyboard. You’ll find them on the row of keys above the top line of letters.
Above these numbers are various symbols, which include ‘£’, ‘&’, ‘!’. To use these, hold down the Shift key while you type. So if you press ’7′ on its own, you get ’7′, but if you press ’7′ while you hold down the ‘Shift’ key, you get ‘&’.
Try typing:
You’ll find similar extra symbols elsewhere on the keyboard:
They operate in exactly the same way as the ones above the numbers.
Step 8: If you want everything to appear in upper case, press the Caps Lock key and then type:
Again, an indicator light may come on to show that your capitals are ‘locked’. Don’t forget to press this key again when you’re finished to turn ‘Caps Lock’ off.
Step 9: The ‘Windows’ key comes in a number of different designs, such as the example to the right.
It does exactly the same thing as the Windows button on the taskbar on your computer screen. You can choose to open the ‘Start’ menu by pressing this key or by clicking the button on the taskbar with your mouse.
Step 10: There are a number of ways that you can move round a web page. Try using the keys below to see where they take you:
Step 10: You’ll be told to use the ‘Control’ (Ctrl) and ‘Alternate’ (Alt) keys for some operations. When you do so, keep holding down one or the other key or both keys while you press any other keys.
For example, if you press CtrlAlt and Delete all at the same time, a menu will open. To make it disappear, press the ‘Escape’ (Esc) key in the top left-hand corner of the keyboard.
Step 11: Some of the things that you use the mouse for can be done with LENOVO Laptop Keyboard shortcuts. These require you to hold down one key while pressing another, and often involve using the ‘Ctrl’ and/or ‘Alt’ keys. Some people prefer using them to using the mouse. There are many shortcuts – check out the list provided by Microsoft Support.

How to Fix TOSHIBA Satellite C650 Keyboard

As laptop computers become a bigger part of people's lives, they are exposed to potential damage through transport, wear and tear, and extreme temperatures. Most laptops will need to be repaired at least once in their usable lives, and
keyboards are one of the more commonly replaced components. Laptop keys become unresponsive or letters become worn away, or spills cause them to fail altogether. However, TOSHIBA Satellite C650 Keyboard are inexpensive and easy to replace.

1.Turn off the laptop and remove the battery. Open the laptop lid and locate the plastic cover at the rear of the keyboard. Turn over the laptop and remove any screws holding the rear cover in place. Return the laptop to the upright position, and use a small flat screwdriver to gently pry up the rear cover. Pull the cover gently from front to back to release any retaining snaps.

2.Locate and remove the four screws holding the keyboard in place. Gently lift the rear of the keyboard to expose the ribbon cable underneath. Release the ribbon cable by carefully prying the brown retainer away from the cable. Pull the cable out of the connector.

3.Place the new TOSHIBA Satellite C650 Keyboard near the laptop palm rest so that the ribbon cable will reach the connector. Insert the cable in to the connector and pry the retainer closed. Replace the keyboard in the recess and reinstall the screws.

4.Gently press one end of the plastic cover back in place at the back of the laptop. Press gently to snap the end of the cover down, then work slowly across the rest of the cover pressing it in place until it is completely seated.

5.Reinsert the battery and turn on the laptop. Verify the new keyboard's operation by typing in Word Pad or a comparable word processing program. Use each key to verify operation. Remove the keyboard and re-seat the ribbon cable if any keys are unresponsive.

How to Repair a Broken Key on TOSHIBA Satellite C655 Keyboard

If you have a laptop computer, you may have already figured out how easily the keys can pop off the keyboard. If you take it for repair, your computer may have to be sent out for repairs. Don't go to those lengths when you can easily repair the key yourself. It can take a little bit of manipulation to get the key on the keyboard, but it is much better than having to pay to have it done and to be without your laptop for a long period of time.
How to repair a broken key on your TOSHIBA Satellite C655 Keyboard :

Step One- Look at the bottom of the broken key. You will see too parts. Each part under the key is moveable. If both pieces aren't under the key, look at the keyboard where the key came off. The second piece may still be on the keyboard. Get the second piece off the keyboard by gently pulling it upward.

Step Two- Attach the loose piece to the underside of the key that needs repaired. You can do this by simply snapping it into place where the prongs are at the top of the key. Both pieces should not be attached to the key itself and be moveable.

Step Three- Move the outer piece so that it is as far open as you can get it. Push and hold the inner piece close to the key. Place the outer piece at the top of the keyboard where the missing key is. Slide the outer piece onto the hooks in the keyboard and gently pull forward. The top of the piece should now be attached to the keyboard.

Step Four- Press down on the front of the key so that it moves towards the keyboard. The key should snap into place. There is a chance that the key could be too tight on the keyboard. If so, remove the key by reversing the actions and try again.

It may take a few minutes the first time that you try to repair a key on a keyboard the first time. Before you know it, you will be a pro at it and you will never have to take your computer to get a key replaced again on your laptop computer. Don't just set the key aside and lose it either. It can be very difficult to type properly when you have a missing key on your TOSHIBA Satellite C655 Keyboard  and eventually it will stop working if you don't repair the problem.

How to Clean the Dell Inspiron N5010 Keyboard

It’s a good idea to clean your Dell Inspiron N5010 keyboard regularly. However, to avoid damaging it, there are some things you need to keep in mind when you are removing dust and particles, or cleaning the keys.

Every so often, you can use a vacuum to clean your laptop keyboard. Use the little portable vacuums, with either the tiny (toothbrush-size) brush or the upholstery-cleaning attachment. This effectively sucks up all the crud in the keyboard. It's amazing to watch.

Some people prefer to clean the keyboard by using a can of compressed air. This is not recommended, because the air can blow the crud in your keyboard further inside the laptop. Instead, use a vacuum.

Remember to have the computer turned off when you do this!

To clean the tops of the keys, use isopropyl alcohol. Soak it up into a soft, dust-free cloth, or use a cotton swab and gently rub the key tops. Try not to drip any alcohol inside the keyboard, and never use a spray cleaner directly on the keyboard.

In addition to cleaning your Dell Inspiron N5010 keyboard regularly, you should also consider washing your hands from time to time.

Cleaning Your LENOVO T410 Keyboard By Hand

1. Unplug the keyboard from the computer
It’s important to unplug the lenovo T410 keyboard before you start the cleaning process so that there’s no risk of shocking yourself. To further protect the electronic components of the board, you may want to cover the cable with a plastic bag or plastic wrap so that it doesn’t get wet.
While you’re holding the unplugged keyboard, this is a good time to turn it upside down and knock out any loose debris, such as cookie crumbs. Just flip the board over and tap gently so that the crumbs are dislodged. Save yourself some grief by holding the keyboard over a trash can while you do this.
2. Assemble your cleaning supplies
Cleaning your keyboard doesn’t take a lot of materials, and it doesn’t take a long time to do, in most cases. Here is what you will need:
A handkerchief, old cotton t-shirt or other cloth that will not shed fuzz
A bottle of electronics cleaner or rubbing alcohol
Cotton swabs,
A can of compressed air OR a screwdriver or knife for prying off the keys
A bottle of dish soap for hand washing (optional)
3. Clean betwixt the keys …
There are two ways to clean in between the keys on your keyboard. The faster way is to use the can of compressed air by aiming it in the cracks and blowing out the dust. Be careful with the compressed air can as it contains harmful chemicals. Use it in a well ventilated area and always hold the can upright so it doesn’t leak.
… or remove them
The second way you can clean this area of the keyboard is a bit more thorough and is not necessary every time you clean it. You can remove the keys and then wipe out the area between and beneath them with the rubbing alcohol or cleaning solution. You should be able to gently pry them off with a flat head screwdriver or knife. (Key word: gently. If they don’t come off easily you are doing something wrong).
Make sure to only take the top cover off the key (the part with the letter on it) and not to remove the base or it will be very difficult or impossible to put the key back on when you’re finished. Also, remove only the letter, number and “F” keys unless you are a computer hardware expert. The larger keys, such as the space bar, are more complex in their makeup and are harder to remove and replace. Note: Take a picture of the keyboard before you pop the keys off or you’ll have a heck of a time trying to put them back in the right place.
5. Clean the keys themselves
If you’ve taken the keys off of the board, you can place them in a bowl of lukewarm water and add a couple drops of dish soap for hand washing to clean them with some light scrubbing. (Be sure to plug the drain if the bowl is in the sink.)
If you still have the keys attached to the board, you can use the cloth or the cotton swabs to clean them. Just dip the cloth in the rubbing alcohol so that it is damp but not dripping wet or spray the cloth with the electronics cleaner. Use the cotton swabs for any tight areas that you cannot reach with the cloth.
6. Clean the rest of the keyboard
Keys or no keys, use the damp cloth to wipe off the remaining surfaces of the keyboard. Be sure to get the sides and the bottom as well as the top.
7. Leave the keyboard to dry
If you’ve only used the electronics cleaner or rubbing alcohol, your keyboard should not take long to dry. However, if you used soap and water on the keys, it may take a couple hours for them to dry thoroughly. You can use a dry cloth to help speed up the process, but don’t put the keys back on the computer until you’ve gotten every ounce of water off of them.
8. Reassemble the board and plug it back in
Again, be SURE that the keyboard is completely dry before completing this step!
Cleaning a Keyboard in the Dishwasher
If your keyboard is severely dirty, say you spilled an entire pot of coffee on it, there are a couple things you can try if the above methods failed to work for you.
Put your keys in the dishwasher: Remove each of the keys from the keyboard and then dismantle the keyboard body itself and remove all of the electronics. Make sure you pay attention to where the screws and internals go! Making a diagram or taking a picture will help.Throw the keys into the silverware basket, place the keyboard body’s shell on the top rack and run them through a normal wash cycle with detergent – but watch the heat and pull them before the dry cycle or they might melt!
Keeping your keyboard clean
The easiest way to keep gunk out of your lenovo T410 keyboard is to work in a clean environment. Don’t eat or drink around your keyboard if you have a habit of spilling. Also, keep sloppy coworkers away. If you can ‘t help typing in a dirty environment, such as a sawdust-filled warehouse, or you won’t get by without your Starbucks at your side while you type, consider investing in a keyboard cover.

Zen and the Art of A1175 Laptop Battery Maintenance

We all own more battery powered products than ever before, and in most cases those batteries are rechargeable. Laptops, music players, phones - they all have rechargeable power packs, almost all of them using lithium.

These batteries don't last forever. No matter what you do, their capacity to hold charge will decline over time, typically down to 80 per cent after 12-18 months in the case of apple a1175 laptop battery. That's a range, not an absolute cut-off point, so how can we make these batteries last as long as possible? Ignoring the exceedingly rare risk of a fire, is there any way to ensure we get the best performance from our portable power supplies?

If you do use the mains as your primary power source - as you might well if the notebook's your main machine - at least make sure you use your laptop on battery power a couple of times a week. This is what we didn't do with the netbook. It has stayed attached to its AC adaptor for most of its life, with the battery barely being used.

The connected battery will charge to 100 per cent and then the battery pack's electronics will ensure the cells receive no further charge. At this point, the biggest threat to the battery is heat from the laptop's internals. Make sure your laptop's vents don't become covered. Beyond the heat generated by its operation, a laptop can safely be left connected to the mains.

When you use your laptop on battery power, make sure its charge drops to at least 80 per cent. But don't let it drop to zero. Depending on which operating system you use and how its power settings are configured, you'll get a low-power warning first and, later, your machine will sleep, hibernate or shut down.

At this point, your battery should still be charged to 5-10 per cent of its capacity, and you should now charge it, whether you want to continue working or not. If you're not going to be able to do so for some time, make sure you've saved your work and your laptop's shut down or hibernating rather than sleeping. These two modes turn the laptop off whereas sleeping just keeps it ticking over, but power is still being drained and you run the risk of emptying the battery.

Completely draining the battery is a no-no. Battery manufacturers and laptop makers say that it's a good idea to drain the battery as far as the laptop will allow every so often and to then charge fully in order to synchronise the various capacity monitors within the power pack and the laptop. That ensures that your capacity read-outs are as accurate as they can be.

If your laptop's going to remain unused for a long period, keep it cool. Never freeze it, but sticking the battery in the fridge, for example, will prolong its life. Battery manufacturers recommend storing batteries with a charge level of 40-50 per cent.

If you do refrigerate a apple a1175 laptop battery, don't start using it as soon as you take it out again. Leave it several hours to warm up to room temperature first. Rapid warming could cause condensation, and you don't want moisture forming inside your battery pack or laptop.

HP EV06 Laptop Battery Maintenance Tips

Always Fully Charge EV06 Laptop Battery
Chargeable batteries will wear down quickly, when they are only charged for a short period of time. When the laptop is not in use, such as at bedtime, plug it into an outlet and leave it to charge until the battery power is full.

When you first buy a laptop or any electronic device that needs to be charged before you can use it, always charge it to full capacity. A laptop will work with only a small bit of power, but if it is not fully charged frequently, it will start to lose its ability to hold a charge.

Power Management Tools
Every computer and laptop has options that allow them to make changes to the power management tools. In a Windows laptop, check under "Control Panel" and you will find the power options. You will be asked to identify the type of computer that you are using. It is important to choose "Laptop" from the drop down menu. Each type of PC will bring up a different option that will save power.

For a laptop, the power management tools will set a time to turn on the screen saver, or it will shut down the hard drives if the notebook sits idle for a specific amount of time. By turning off hardware that is not in use, the laptop will not use as much power and the batteries will not die as fast.

Close Unnecessary Programs
Look at the programs that start up along with your operating system. If you don't have to use them immediately, right click on the icon and go into options. Scroll through the list until you can turn off the option to have the program open whenever you start the laptop. When you use an application, close it when you are done.

Programs that are left open will use system resources and power that are needed for other software. If you only have a few programs open at the same time, the laptop will use less power and it will be able to stay on battery power longer.

Purge and Discharge Laptop Batteries
At least once a month, every laptop user should purge and discharge their batteries to prolong their life. To purge a laptop, remove the AC power cord. Turn on the laptop and let the battery drain until the low battery sign pops up. Plug in the power cord and let the notebook charge to full capacity while the laptop is still on.

Batteries can be discharged in a similar fashion. Go into the power management option and turn off all of the power saving tools including hibernation, sleep mode and the screen saver. Allow the EV06 Laptop Battery to drain completely until the laptop shuts itself off. Without turning on the laptop, reconnect the power cord and allow it to charge until the battery is full.

Use AC Power
Most laptop users will plug in the AC cord even when the battery is not low. However, this is also causing the battery to drain in small increments. Before you use the laptop, remove the battery and then plug in the power cord, so that the laptop is running on only AC power. Store the battery on a cool, dry surface and replace it when you shut off the laptop.
