How to Replace the CPU Fan in the LENOVO G560

If your LENOVO G560 laptop is making more noise than usual, the culprit could be a faulty CPU fan. If left unchecked, this could cause overheating of the laptop and the CPU, resulting in damage and costly repair. Fortunately, this is a fairly simple part to replace for a user with a little experience.

First, you will need a replacement part. Visit our online store for replacement parts for many laptop models, or visit a section such as LENOVO G560 CPU Fan or LENOVO Laptop System boards to browse more specific results.

Once you have your replacement part, follow these steps to replace the fan in your LENOVO G560:

1. As with any repair, disconnect all cables, including the AC adapter cable, and remove the battery. Make sure you are properly grounded by touching something metal or using an anti-static wrist band before disassembling.

2. Remove the screws on the bottom of the laptop holding the different covers and palm rest in place. There should be four in total.

3. Flip the unit over and open the display. Gently lift up on the palm rest until you see its connector cable. Remove this cable from the keyboard, and then remove the palm rest.

4. Gently lift the bottom of the keyboard, tilting it up and pulling it toward you to access the ribbon cable connecting it to the motherboard. Gently disconnect the cable.

5. Locate the PCI Express card and remove the two screws holding it in place. Disconnect the three cables connecting it to the system board and remove it.

6. Flip the G560 over again and remove the two screws near bottom corners.

7. Flip it back over and remove the antenna cable connected to the cable guide connected to the bezel around the keyboard. Gently pry the bezel up and remove it.

8. You can now access the fan assembly. Remove the three screws holding it in place and disconnect it from the motherboard.

9. Connect the new LENOVO G560 CPU Fan to the motherboard and put it in place with the three screws.

Now simply reverse the above steps to reassemble your G560 laptop, reconnect the power and battery, and test to ensure your laptop is functioning correctly. If all seems normal, you are finished.
