LENOVO Laptop Screen Is Distorted & Green

LENOVO Y410 screen can sometimes be more difficult to troubleshoot than desktop screens as laptop screens are more subject to physical problems than desktop screens. Because of the portable nature of a laptop, the odds are increased that the screen will get bumped or the computer dropped, even in an office environment. If your screen is distorted or displaying strange colors, you could be dealing with physical damage.

Universal Error
First, you need to determine whether or not the issue with distortion or strange colors on your laptop is specific to the operating system of if the problem exists in every mode on the computer. Power the laptop down and wait a few seconds before turning it on. As soon as you press the power button, look for a message saying “Press X to enter system setup,” where “X” is a key specific to your computer. Tap the corresponding button to enter the system setup program and look for the same issues here; if the picture is still distorted and green, you probably have a hardware problem. If the picture looks fine here, the issue is with Windows.

Windows Resolution Settings
If the error with your screen is specific to Windows, the issue might be a video driver or a Windows setting; when Windows loads, it loads specific software that controls the video output on your laptop, and if this software is corrupted or if its settings have changed, the picture may display strangely. Right-click anywhere in the Desktop and choose “Display” to access video settings. Click “Adjust resolution” and then choose the setting that says “Recommended” beside it, which will choose the best setting for your particular display and should correct distortion. Click “Apply” to save these settings.

Driver Issues
In addition to controlling the resolution of the video output, your video driver controls colors on your laptop screen. If the driver is corrupt or if Windows can’t find the correct driver -- which may happen after a software update -- then the picture will appear in a reduced color mode. Click in the top-right corner of Windows and then choose “Control Panel.” Select “Hardware and Sound” and then choose “Device Manager” to launch Device Manager. Right-click on “Display” and then choose “Properties,” then click on the “Driver” tab and choose “Update driver” to have Windows search for a new driver for your video card.

Physical Issues
Ultimately, you may have to determine whether or not the discoloration and distortion is an issue with your LENOVO Y410 screen or if the problem is specific to your computer’s video card. You can use any of the external monitors in your office to test your laptop. Connect the monitor to the monitor port on the laptop while the computer is on. Press the “Function” key along the top row of your keyboard to toggle an external display; this key is different on each manufacture’s laptop. If the external display has the same problems, your computer’s video card or software is the problem. If the external display doesn’t have the same problem, the issue is with your laptop’s display, which may need to be replaced.

How to Keep Your LENOVO Laptop and Screen in a Good Shape

It is important to take a good care of your laptop. The prevention of problems are easier and better than fixing them after they happen. You may safeguard your notebook and LENOVO Y410 screen by using with care.

1.Keep your notebook in a open area that has a good air circulation during the power on. Store it in a well circulated area too.

2.Keep drinks and any liquids away from your notebook because short circuits by liquid destroy notebooks often. Also keep any food away from your notebook. Do not eat over because the crumbs go in the keyboard that cause the keys fail eventually. Wash your hands before using your notebook. Avoid leaving dirt and stains on the touchpad and keys.

3.Be careful with the LCD screen. It is especially vulnerable. Close the lid gently holding two sides. Make sure there is nothing left on the keyboard. Hold and lift your notebook by its base, not by its LCD screen. Avoid scratching and putting pressure on the LENOVO Y410 screen. If LCD screen is broken, you can easily replace the screen for about $50-100 from laptop screen company.

4.When bringing your notebook from colder place to warmer, do not turn it on immediately. Let it warm a few hours first. Do not leave your notebook unattended in a car.

5.Do not disconnect the plug from the power socket by pulling on the power cord. Plug in external connectors and devices into their proper slots. Insert drives into their slots carefully, in right position, and at the correct angle. Try to keep the cord and all wires away from the floor and your legs.

6.Use a special case when you carry the notebook. Do not drop the notebook. Its internal parts are very fragile.

7.Clean your notebook regularly. Shut it down before cleaning. You may use an old tooth brush to rid of the dust in the area around the fan.
