How to Raise LENOVO G560 CPU Fan Speeds on a Lenovo Laptop

If your business requires you to do a lot of work from your Lenovo laptop, you've probably noticed an occasional issue with overheating. Running several intensive programs on your laptop can raise the CPU temperature, causing the LENOVO G560 CPU Fan to engage. Step 1

Can You Clean the Contact Between a CPU & Fan?

Step 1
Unplug the ASUS CPU Fan power cord from the motherboard and unscrew or unlock the connectors holding it down -- there is usually one in each corner. Pull it straight out of your computer case.

Step 2
Release the lever holding your CPU down, and then push the metal strips that were holding it down all the way back. Grip two corners of the CPU with two fingers, and then lift it straight out of the computer case.

Step 3
Set the CPU and CPU fan contact sides up on a clean paper towel. Dampen another paper towel or coffee filter with isopropyl alcohol, and then carefully wipe the thermal paste off the contact areas of your CPU and CPU fan. If necessary, dampen a cotton swab with the isopropyl alcohol to clean it out of any crevices it got into. When done, wait a moment for the CPU and CPU fan to dry completely.

Step 4
Put the CPU in the desired computer's CPU slot, and then lock it into place with the lever on the motherboard. Squeeze a small amount -- a bit smaller than pea-sized -- of new thermal paste onto the center of the CPU's metal plate.

Step 5
Position your CPU fan over the CPU, and then line up its four connectors with the four connections on the motherboard. Push it into place, and then lock the connectors in to secure it. The new thermal paste will spread to cover the contact areas on the CPU and ASUS CPU Fan. They are now ready for use.

Testing an Installed Fan

Step 1
Download and install SpeedFan. This program uses data provided by sensors in your computer's hardware to display information about the temperatures of various components and the speed at which the APPLE CPU Fan for those components are rotating.
Step 2
Launch SpeedFan and wait a few minutes for it to retrieve data.
Step 3
Examine the information presented in the main program window. The speed at which your computer's fans are rotating, measured in revolutions per minute, is on the left side of the window, while temperatures of various components are on the right side. The RPM data for the CPU fan is listed first, but may be labeled differently depending on the data sent by your hardware.
Step 4

Testing a Fan Separately

Step 1
Remove the power supply from your computer, disconnecting all cables. If you have access to a spare working power supply, using that one instead will save you the time spent disconnecting it and reconnecting it.
Step 2
Check the power supply for a three-pin fan connector. Many modern power supplies have this connector; if your power supply lacks it, you will need to purchase a four-pin Molex to four-pin Molex plus three-pin fan splitter cable.
Step 3
Bend or cut a metal paper clip to create a "U" shape.
Step 4
Identify the 24-pin main power connector and locate a green wire and a black wire.
Step 5
Insert one end of the U-shaped paper clip into the pin corresponding to the green wire and the other into the pin corresponding to the black wire.
Step 6
Connect the fan you want to test to the power supply using the three-pin fan connector and, if necessary, the splitter cable.
Step 7
Plug the power supply into an electric socket using the appropriate power cable and, if necessary, turn it on using the switch on the back of it. Check whether APPLE CPU Fan on the power supply is spinning to ensure it is on.
Step 8
Check if the fan you are testing is spinning, if it's making any odd noises, stuttering or abruptly changing speeds.

How to Close the Laptop and Not LENOVO Screen

Right-click anywhere in the Desktop and choose “Display” to access video settings. Click “Adjust resolution” and then choose the setting that says “Recommended” beside it, which will choose the best setting for your particular display and should correct distortion. Click “Apply” to save these settings.

Driver Issues
In addition to controlling the resolution of the video output, your video driver controls colors on your laptop screen. If the driver is corrupt or if Windows can’t find the correct driver -- which may happen after a software update -- then the picture will appear in a reduced color mode. Click in the top-right corner of Windows and then choose “Control Panel.” Select “Hardware and Sound” and then choose “Device Manager” to launch Device Manager. Right-click on “Display” and then choose “Properties,” then click on the “Driver” tab and choose “Update driver” to have Windows search for a new driver for your video card.

Physical Issues
Ultimately, you may have to determine whether or not the discoloration and distortion is an issue with your LENOVO Y410 screen or if the problem is specific to your computer’s video card. You can use any of the external monitors in your office to test your laptop. Connect the monitor to the monitor port on the laptop while the computer is on. Clean a ACER Aspire Keyboard

Maintenance is one cost-cutting measure that could save you unnecessary future repairs.

Clean a ACER Aspire One D255 Keyboard

Lift the right corner of your notebook's hinge cover using a flat-blade screwdriver. Pry it loose from the notebook's base.

Remove the ACER Aspire One D255 Keyboard by unscrewing the two M2.5 x 5 mm screws located atop your keyboard. Fragile keycaps can easily be dislodged but are difficult to replace, so exercise care.

Rotate the keyboard slowly up and forward toward your display screen. You will see the keyboard connector below it. This has a delicate ribbon cable with a plastic bar.

Release the ACER Aspire One D255 Keyboard cable from its attachment to the keyboard connector.

Rotate the plastic bar of the keyboard connector forward toward the front of your display.

Detach the entire ACER Aspire Keyboard from the notebook's base.

Spray compressed air lightly on your keyboard to loosen debris from keys.

Wipe gently but thoroughly in between key slots and all plastic portions using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Avoid dampening any wire connections.

Reattach the whole keyboard after cleaning. Hook the tabs on the lower portion near the palm rest and gently press the right upper portion of your keyboard to snap it back into place. Firmly replace the two screws using the screwdriver.

How to Repair a Scratched LENOVO Laptop Screen

The portable nature of laptops make them very useful, but also more susceptible to damage. Repairing the damage is often also costly because all the laptop components are integrated. The LENOVO B575 screen of a laptop is particularly prone to scratches. Instead of paying to replace the scratched screen, you may be able to repair the damage, provided that it is not too severe, and save your business some money. Step 5
Coat a cotton swab with petroleum jelly, and then gently apply it to the scratched area. Continue rubbing the petroleum jelly into the scratched surface until it is filled.

Step 6
Gently remove the excess petroleum jelly around the area where the scratch is, but take care not to wipe it out of the scratch. The petroleum jelly should cover the scratch and make it less noticeable. Repeat this process when the petroleum jelly wears off.

When the screen on a laptop breaks, it can be a very intimidating problem indeed for those who have never taken a laptop apart in the past before,

In this Instructable i hope to dispel a part of that mystery in an effort to empower you so you can repair your own laptop next time it breaks.

Things you will need
a small phillips head Screw driver
a few small cups or containers (for the many screws on your laptop)
a small flat head screw driver (for the plastic clips on the top bezel)
and a Replacement screen ( the most expensive part, but if you look in craigslist you can get a broken laptop with a working screen fairly easy and replace your broken machine with the working parts from the other broken laptop)

or you can go through your laptop manufacturer to order a new LENOVO G560 Screen. (usually not cheap)

One more note. by perfoming these actions you will be voiding your warranty assuming you have any left on the machine. if you do have a warranty on the machine, just send it out to the Depot and get it fixed for free.

You are going to need soap for children, lint-free napkins and clean water - 30 degrees (Celsius) or 86 degrees (Fahrenheit).
Now you can start the cleaning process. Be very careful cleaning LCD monitors, as they are easily damaged (to be exact, their liquid-crystal matrix is easily damaged).

Guidelines:

Make sure you unplugged computer and monitor is off for at least 2 hours.
Take a napkin / paper towel and wet it in the water (it should be just a little wet, it shouldn't be dripping).
Gently wipe the surface of the screen, don't press too hard.
Wet the other napkin in prepared water and apply a little bit soap to it. Make sure it is a little wet and not dripping.
Carefully wipe the screen with a soapy napkin, work the screen from the top down. Pay attention to the spots, wipe them off.
Take another napkin and wet it in the water.
Carefully wipe the screen with the third napkin and make sure there is no soap left. Pay attention to the corners of the screen, soap can gather there.
Take a new napkin, a dry one. Gently wipe the scree, work from the bottom up.
Carefully look at the screen at the different angles and make sure there are no marks or spots left. If everything looks fine, then consider cleaning the LENOVO B575 Screen almost over. If you still see marks or a little dirt, remove them with a clean dry napkin.
Make sure everything is nice and clean.
Put the soap and napkins back on the shelves where they belong, make sure there is no water on your work desk. Plug in.

How to Keep Your LENOVO Laptop and Screen in a Good Shape

This happens when a wipe or cloth is used on more than one device or is reused multiple times as is suggested above. If the cloth used for cleaning becomes contaminated in storage between cleanings, you can do permanent damage to a very expensive LCD or Plasma TV with just one wipe! For the price, the elimination of risk, and just plain old peace of mind, a single use wet/dry wipe system is by far your best choice for cleaning LCD monitors, TVs, Plasma TVs, and any LENOVO Y430 Screen.

Shut down your laptop, unplug it from the power adapter, and remove the battery before cleaning it or you risk damaging the pixels in the LCD display.

How to Clean LENOVO Screen with Household Products

Wipe with a Moist Cloth

1.Turn the computer off and unplug the power adapter and battery.

2.Dampen a soft cloth with water. Apply a little water to a soft microfiber cloth, making the cloth barely moist.
Only use soft cloth. A static-free, fiber-free cloth works best, but most non-abrasive cloths will also work well. Do not, however, use paper towels, dish towels, or other rough cloths.
Do not drench the cloth in water. A soaked cloth is more likely to drip excess water into the machine, which could cause serious damage to your computer. If you accidentally use too much water, wring the cloth out well until it is only slightly moist.
For best results, use distilled water instead of tap water. Tap water contains minerals, and some of these minerals can be conductive. As a result, tap water is more likely to cause a short than distilled water.

These days, most manufacturers are no longer recommending using products that contain ANY alcohol, ammonia, or other strong solvents on LCD screens. If you take great care in the selection of the ingredients for your solution, the containers you are going to mix your solution in, and your choice of cleaning cloths, it is possible to clean your LCD screen with household products. If you are unsure about ANY of the pieces mentioned above, then your safest path is to purchase a package of single use wet/dry commercially available wipes that are designed, and tested, specifically for cleaning LCD and Plasma screens.

1.Create a gentle cleaning solution. The ideal solution is plain distilled water. If more heavy cleaning is needed a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water can also be effective.

2.Put the solution in a small atomizer bottle, the type that you push from the top to get a fine mist. Don't use this to spray on the screen itself, however.

3.Apply a minimal amount of the solution to very soft cloth such as a cotton cloth (e.g. an old T-shirt), a lint-free microfiber cloth, a disposable cloth (such as a soft, non-woven compress or disposable wipe from the drugstore with no cleaning agents added) or similar. A large cloth (or several disposable wipes) is best, since it will help to reduce the risk of leaving streaks across the screen from finger pressure. Do not make the cloth wet, only moist. A wet cloth can drip or run when cleaning the screen and the solution can weep behind the bezel and permanently damage your screen!

4.Wipe the cloth against the LENOVO B575 Screen in a circular, or other consistent motion. Rapid circular movements generally eliminate streaks. Apply a gentle and even pressure to the cloth. Use only enough pressure to keep the cloth in contact with the screen. Take care not to press your fingers into the cloth or screen. And lower CPU temperatures often result in a quieter system that’s also more stable and overclockable, if that’s your thing. A fan chip is likely to hold up longer under sustained use, too.

With all of the potential benefits to a properly installed CPU fan, we thought it would be a good idea to take you through the installation process, step by step, with both AMD- and Intel-based systems. Keep in mind that while we focus on desktop processors here, the steps outlined in this article generally apply to all types of processors, and to other chips that require heat sinks to aid in cooling.

Installing a Fan on an AMD Processor
Although current AMD desktop processors make use of a few different socket types (AM2, AM3, AM3+ and FM1), the CPU-fan installation process is similar for them all.

Ensure that your AMD processor is fully inserted into its socket.

Step 1: Ensure That the CPU Is Fully Inserted Into Its Socket

Unless something is obstructing the processor and preventing it from being perfectly seated in its socket, the chip should sit flat and level. To be certain it’s installed correctly, lift the socket retention lever and apply a bit of downward pressure on the CPU. Then, while applying the pressure, lower the lever to lock the CPU into place. Finally, perform a final visual inspection to confirm that the CPU is fully seated and flat against the socket.

Step 2: Clean the CPU and Heat-Sink Surfaces

For the base of the fan’s heat sink to make optimal contact with the CPU’s integrated heat spreader, both surfaces must be clean and free from contaminants or particles. Use a lint-free cloth and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (or an alcohol-based cleaner safe for use on electronics, which won’t leave behind any residue), to clean the base of the heat sink and the top of the CPU’s integrated heat spreader. It’s important to remove adhesive or any other potential contaminants that may prevent the surfaces from mating properly.

Carefully clean the CPU and prime it before installing the heat sink.

Step 3: Prime the CPU and Heat-Sink Surfaces With Thermal Paste

Some people argue that this step is unnecessary, but we’ve been doing it for years with great success. The reason for using a thermal interface material, or TIM, between the heat sink and CPU is to minimize or eliminate any potential air gaps. The TIM is a better conductor of heat than air is, and it acts as a medium to facilitate the migration of heat from the CPU to the heat sink. Priming the surfaces with a small amount of thermal paste (our TIM of choice) will fill in the microscopic imperfections in the metal that may not be filled by the final application of thermal interface material as the heat sink compresses it. Priming the surfaces also lubricates them somewhat, and helps to ensure that the final application of TIM spreads more easily and more evenly when compressed.

To prime the CPU’s integrated heat spreader and the heat sink’s base, apply a very small amount of thermal paste to each and rub it into their surfaces with a circular motion, as if you were waxing a car. The goal is to work the paste into the imperfections in the surface, until you’re left with what looks like a slight haze in the metal.

Step 4: Apply the Thermal Interface Material

With the CPU’s integrated heat spreader and the heat sink’s base clean and primed, it’s time to apply some thermal interface material, preferably a high-quality ceramic or silver-based thermal paste. On the center of the CPU’s integrated heat spreader, apply a small amount of thermal paste--just enough to cover the metal surface with a paper-thin layer of paste when spread out. A drop barely larger than a BB but smaller than a pea will do. You do not want gobs of extra paste to ooze from the sides when you mount the heat sink. The goal is to use the least amount of thermal paste possible to cover the surface of the integrated heat spreader, eliminate any air gaps, and allow maximum thermal transfer between the integrated heat spreader and the heat sink. Using too much thermal paste can hinder performance, so be judicious in its application.

Try to mount the fan so that there are no air gaps between it and the CPU.

Step 5: Mount the CPU fan

Most air fans for AMD processors use a simple clip/latching mechanism to secure the heat-sink assemblies to the socket. The installation process involves lowering the heat sink in place, latching two clips to the mounting bracket around the CPU socket, and firmly securing the heat sink with whatever locking mechanism is installed on the fan, typically a lever with a cam or screws.

The fan we used, a model from Thermaltake, had a simple lever with a cam. To install it, we lowered it into position, being careful to hold it level and parallel to the CPU’s surface to ensure that the thermal paste spread evenly in all directions. Then, we positioned the metal clips over the hooks on the mounting bracket, and while applying a bit of downward pressure on the heat sink, we moved the lever into the locked position. The cam on the lever engages with a metal place on the mounting bracket, and applies constant downward pressure on the heat sink so that it makes good contact with the CPU surface.

Finally, plug the cooling fan’s connector into the LENOVO G560 CPU Fan header on the motherboard, and you’re done.

Use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the dust that you moved away from the CPU. Place a crevice tool or other attachment onto the hose to reduce the size of the opening and help ensure that you only remove dust.

Step 7

How To Mount the LENOVO CPU Fan

Mounting LENOVO G560 CPU Fan is a three part process: First, inspect the heat-sink/fan. Second, if you don’t have thermal paste preapplied to the heat-sink/fan combination, you will need to apply it. Third, attach the heat-sink/fan to the CPU. Many of these steps will feel familiar to someone who has extensively modded their computers. However, even veteran builders might learn some useful tips from a review.
Step one, examine the size and shape of the heat-sink/fan. If you’re not certain it will fit, you may want to carefully measure it so that length of the heat-sink/fan’s power connector will reach its corresponding connector on the motherboard. If you don’t, you may find yourself remounting the HSF, after rubbing off its thermal paste.
Step two, if you don’t have thermal paste already applied to your heat sink, you will need to add it. Application requires several steps:
Prime the heat sink and CPU surfaces: If you were to take an electron microscope and examine the surfaces of the heat sink and CPU, it would appear as an alien planet, filled with valleys and craters. You can prime each surface with thermal compound, which fills in these valleys with thermally conductive material, enhancing the flow of heat. To do so, take a microfiber cloth or coffee filter, and apply a tiny amount of thermal paste to each surface and rub until it feels smooth.

Apply the thermal compound in one of four basic patterns, depending on the CPU: Either (1) a vertical line, (2) a horizontal line, (3) covering the surface or (4) a rice-sized dot in the center of the CPU. Keep the following tips in mind: If reusing an older heat sink, remove the thermal paste on the CPU and the heat sink using 90%+ alcohol solutions. Apply the alcohol to a lint-free wipe and use this to remove the thermal compound. I prefer using denatured alcohol, although I’ve been told that the bitumen residue may lead to undesirable side-effects .

Metal-ion thermal pastes are also electrically conductive. If you accidentally apply it to your hands and then touch the motherboard, you may cause a fatal short. Therefore, when applying such a compound, keep your hands clean and exercise extreme caution.
Don’t apply too much thermal paste. After pressing the heat sink into the top of the CPU, it will cause the paste to spread out. A little goes a long way. Typically applying a dot the size of a grain of rice is sufficient.
Step three, attach the heat sink:
On stock Intel heat-sink/fans, the push-pin attachment style leaves a great deal to be desired. Optimally, it’s best applied before you screw the motherboard into the PC chassis. If this isn’t an option, you take the risk of damaging your board. Fortunately, many aftermarket Intel HSF use push-pins that actually work. There’s also back plate-equipped alternatives that dispense with the pins mechanism.
